Flight

Song: Underneath the Waves

Artist: Hale

The stars beneath the sky they tell me you’re a secret.
And every time I wake up in the morning
Rain is falling down on me; I feel free.

You caught me by surprise. I asked you to believe me.
Without a lie we’ll never have to say and feel we’re sorry.
Don’t say we’re sorry. Soon you’ll see.

I’m learning, I’m learning you now.
Stars fading, free falling into you

This time I’m sure of what I’m looking for.
And that’s what I want you to know.
And I won’t ever let you go, let you go

Underneath the waves,
I can feel you underneath the waves.

I’m learning, I’m learning you now.
Stars fading, free falling into you

This time I’m sure of what I’m looking for.
And that’s what I want you to know.
And I won’t ever let you go, let you go.

It’s all been said and done to me, I know it.
Just let me have the chance to prove my cause.
And I don’t know what lies ahead for us.
In any road I’ll let you come my way.

This time i’m sure of what I’m looking for.
And that’s what I want you to know.
And I won’t ever let you go, let you go.

And I’m ready for you now,
I’m ready for you now.
Be ready for me now,
Be ready for me now. . .
Show me love.

I’ve written something related to this song before. I was talking to an old friend last night and I remembered how I had written something about an event in my life that somehow relates to the first lines of this song. Since this is not such a familiar song, I’m posting lyrics and the band’s photo and album cover (Note to self: maybe I should reconsider doing this for all entries).

The most significant memory of this song, though, is of that time I spent lying on the sand with my husband. It was the first time we spent together on a beach and it was perfect. The second time I came back to that spot, he was not with me. In fact, he was thousands of miles away.

“I know I’m not the most reliable person in the whole world and I know my word doesn’t count for much. But… I don’t know… maybe this time we can pretend I am?” Lisa had been smiling as Gene paced the ends of the room. It was really funny seeing him get agitated like this over something they had discussed over one too many shots of the resort’s finest liquor.

“And, say, I blurted it out like that. Can you honestly say that it doesn’t make sense? I mean… come on… help me out here.” He brushed his long hair away from his face and she felt as if the earth was pushing her closer and closer to him. He finally stopped in front of her and stood their for a few glorious seconds. He need not stand so close, for she had memorized every muscle on his body, every corner of his face, and every glimmer of his green eyes. “You’re telling me, it has never crossed your mind?”

“Of course it has. How ever can you ask me that? I’m not as spiffy as every one else thinks I am.” She noticed that she had been fumbling nervously on the pillowcase edges. The bed looked so darn inviting, know that she paid attention to it. Being alone here with him, with everyone outside, she knew what they were all thinking.

Of course, she’s thought of it. It’s all she thinks about whenever he’s there, even if he isn’t. These, for her, are rhetoricals. Not questions nor things to be discussed, but rather a statement, a long standing truth just waiting to be blurted out.

It’s terribly hard to avoid the stares, and the mildly flirtatious banter every so often. Everyone knew. Everyone else did not even try pretending they didn’t.

“So… “ he sat on the cold empty space beside her. Her imagination of how this moment would come never even came close to what it actually feels like. “This is it.” He was dangerously close and that smile felt like his arms were tight around her waist.

“I hope you’re right because there sure aint anything that’s gonna stop me now from telling her she’s the one.” He planted a kiss on her flushed cheeks and dashed out the door and away from her.
